A storm blew in today, two more are expected in the next few days. The power was out and you become aware of your dependence on energy for the modem, the computer, the heater, light, refridgeration.

For the last several days the media has been pumping the devastation that will come to pass. The channels and stations were full of the stories of alienation caused by rains and floods, and slides and winds.

I walked out in it, sat in it, and soaked it it. Days like these are some of the best of life. Embrace the wet!

Appreciate a number 2 pencil, binder paper, wool, tea, fire, and fenders on your bike.

SheRide

I call it SheRide, and it cost me nothing. Blue patina, step through frame, overweight by today's standards, dressed in rust, tires flat and balding, accessorized with lock minus key.

After all these years, and neglect she still functions, still rolls, still excites. A testimony to the power of mating simplicity and human power.

Best of all, she was free; A curbside find in Berkeley. The ad on Craigslist was two hours old. "Free to good home, it's on the curb, don't disturb occupants." Sometimes in life objects roll into your life, and you don't know why or how. They wait for you. To ride again.
